Please Do Not buy a puppy as a
Christmas present.........
Forgotten Dog's Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all
through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there
The children were nestled all snug in their beds
With no thought of the dog filling their heads
And mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap
Knew he was cold, but didn't care about that
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Figuring the dog was free of his chain and into the trash
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear
But Santa Claus - with eyes full of tears
He UN-chained the dog, once so lively and quick
Last year's Christmas present, now painfully thin and sick
More rapid than eagles he called the dog's name
And the dog ran to him, despite all his pain
"Now, DASHER! now, DANCER! now, PRANCER and VIXEN!
On, COMET! on CUPID! on, DONNER and BLITZEN!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!
Let's find this dog a home where he'll be loved by all."
I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year
For Santa Claus had made one thing quite clear
The gift of a dog is not just for the season
We had gotten the pup for all the wrong reasons
In our haste to think of the kids a gift
There was one important thing that we missed
A dog should be family, and cared for the same
You don't give a gift, then put it on a chain
And I heard him exclaim as he rode out of sight
"You weren't given a gift! You were
given a LIFE!"

A busy day for Chelsea and I
today...
As committee members we had
a very early start for Coventry Cocker Spaniel Club's
Championship Show. We are not permitted to show as committee
members, we don't mind though as there is always lot's to
keep us busy.
Congratulations to all who
were placed.
We had to leave the show
early as we had ticket's to see Take That at the NEC, I last
saw them before they split in the 90's. What a fantastic
night we had....fab seats and fab company...

A pleasant day showing
today at West Of England Cocker Spaniel Club Championship
Show. The dogs had a good day, We were especially pleased
with our new baby Ace, Quintavia Time Traveler who made his
debut today in a strong minor puppy dog class, he was placed
3rd and qualified for Crufts 2008! Sid was first in his
class and Arnie and Roxy were 3rd in their classes.
Unfortunately Ribbon missed her class, we were exercising
the dogs when the class was called. Chelsea was so
disappointed she had waited all day for one class and then
missed it.

Not much news to report
regarding the dogs as we have no shows for a couple of weeks,
however I know we have lots of regular visitors to the site so I
thought I would add this photo of Challowdown Forget Me Not,
Ellie. She is Show Stopper daughter and her breeder Dawn thinks
she looks very much like her Daddy!

A freezing cold, dull rather
miserable day at Builth Wells today. It felt more like mid
October than mid August for Welsh Kennel Club's Championship
show.We had an
O.K day showing...Quintavia Star Stopper was 2nd and Quintavia
Time Lord was 3rd in his class.
Ribbon was unplaced today,
not sure why as she looked good and moved well, always the
merry cocker, with a happy waggy tail. But hey ho that's
showing for you !!
Quintavia Enigma, Chloe had
a trip out today, her first show for nearly a year and she
was placed 5th in limit bitch. She showed like she had never
been away. Well done Chloe!

At last some warm, dry
weather!!
We had a short drive today
to Malvern for the National Gundog Championship Show. Once
again the show team had a good day and Chelsea and I spent
some time with a friend who had travelled to the show from
Scotland to exhibit her bitch. Lola her girl is half sister
to our Roxy and we wish Gilly every success with her.
The show team had another
good day...Quintavia Time Lord was placed 2nd, Lawnswae
Ribbon 3rd and Quintavia Time Lord was 4th in his class.

I received an email today from
a lovely lady who owns Abi, Quintavia Star Stopper's litter
sister...
Abi is now a year old! We have had her for seven months now and
we don't regret a minute. We love her to bits. She has such a
sweet nature and is very quick at picking things up. We are
amazed at how many 'cues' to a routine she understands
-
plates out for dinner = crate,
-
locking outside door = going out. Then she waits to see if I
put the radio on. I f I do, she heads straight for the
crate. I never have to tell her anything
Ed spoils her rotten with cuddles – his lap is first 'port of
call' when we sit down in the evening! She mixes very well with
Dad's lab and Sarah's Springer, as well as my friend's guide dog
pup.

Here is a photo of the
first un-docked litter bred here at Quintavia....
What a lovely bunch they
are.. Sired by Quintavia Show Stopper, they are all typical
of his offspring.
They are very sweet
puppies, all are ultra short in the body with good heads and
excellent rear angulation and plenty of bone, only problem
is which one do we keep?

We had a nice
day at North Western Counties Spaniel Club Open
show today. Quintavia Star Stopper was second in
his class, Lawnswae Ribbon was also second, our
new blue baby Charbonnel Do's N Don'ts was 5th
in the minor puppy bitch class which we were
really pleased with as Roxy was only 6 months 3
days ago. She was " the baby " of the class but
showed really well.
Quintavia Time
Lord, Arnie was Best dog and Reserve Best of
Breed. Here is the latest photo of him aged 15
months, we think he is maturing really well and
is everything I like in a young male dog. I
think he will be about 2 years of age before he
reaches his best. He has such strength and
substance and although a little difficult to
handle at times due to his sheer exhuberance, he
uses his strength and his short hocks to power
himself around the ring. No short pitter patter
rear movement from this boy! He holds himself
and carries himself like a young male dog
should.

I was judging cocker's for
Hampshire Gundog Society, I had a lovely drive down in
glorious sunshine. My Best of Breed was a lovely black

was a sweet blue roan bitch Jardinisle Classic Design at
Merrydance. Many Thanks to the committee for their kind
invitation, and to the exhibitors.
Chelsea was showing at
Nuneaton and District Canine Society at Coventry and what a
great day she had!
Chelsea showed my Puppy
Quintavia Star Stopper and he was 1st in a big, quality
puppy class ! Sid later went on to take 4th in the gundog
puppy group!
Ribbon was 1st in junior
and went on to take Reserve Best of Breed!

Thanks again Beryl for little Ribby.
Quintavia Star Stopper was

Charbonnel Playtime was 3rd in veteran. Many thanks to the

As we
have had some good weather this week
I have been able to take some
photo's of the dogs. Here are Sid
and Ribbon, two of Ringo's kids. We
are really pleased with these
youngsters, both are winning well
in the show ring but most
importantly both have lovely, gentle
natures and sweet temperaments. Both
are very placid, laid back dogs who
will quietly amuse themselves
pottering around the garden for
hours. Ribbon fancies herself as a
bit of a gardener specialising in
digging the biggest hole possible in
which to bury her toys! Sid is quite
happy trotting around with a plant
pot or two in his mouth and prefers
to leave the digging to the other
dogs.
Sid
will join is Sire Quintavia Show
Stopper at stud shortly. Both Sid
and Ringo are clear of PRA and F.N
Please see our

We had a nice
day today at North of England Cocker
Association open show. Arnie and Ribbon were
both first in their classes, Chelsea was
again Best Junior Handler in Show, she
handled Peggy today for a change. It was
lovely to see Peggy enjoying her day out and
she trotted round the ring like a youngster.
Peggy was also Best Veteran in Show, it's
hard to believe she is nearly 8, where does
the time go ? I am so proud of this
girl..... and I owe her so much.

Well today
was THE date in the show diary CRUFTS! a
very tiring day with a very early start.
I'm sure there are people who are
unaware of the amount of hard work that
goes into looking after a number of
dogs, attending shows the previous 12
months to qualify your dogs for Crufts
or gain a stud book number, and then
having the ability to present your dogs
in a fit, healthy, clean condition with
well trimmed coats. We worked on our
dogs presentation for the previous 2
weeks and we were pleased with the way
our dog's looked and performed in the
ring. Our dogs mean the world to us and
I am extremely proud of them!
Chelsea
had a FANTASTIC day with her little star
Ribbon...They were placed 3rd in puppy
Bitch, a brilliant achievement
especially considering the huge entry of
27 bitches. Well done Chelsea, I am so
proud of you, your achievements with the
dogs and your beautiful, kind, sunny
personality.....

I would like
to thank my friends and Quintavia Cocker
owners that have taken the time to email,
phone and even send flowers to wish Chelsea
and I good luck at crufts tomorrow. We will
hopefully have lots of photo's of the day to
share with you all. Here is one email from
the owners of Quintavia Time Lord's litter
sister...
Dear Tracey
and Chelsea,
Just wanted to
wish you the very best of luck for Crufts.
Lizzie will be glued to the tele to see how
her relatives are doing! If there was a
Crufts for the prettiest little girl in the
world she would win! (we think!) She is the
most beautiful, perfect dog and we consider
ourselves lucky that she's ours. It's all in
the genes!
Thinking of
you and sending you our best wishes and lots
of licks!

We received some
good news from Beryl Edwards today. Lawnswae
Chocolate Fudge who is Lawnswae Ribbon's dam has

Normal. She will never produce puppies affected

We travelled north again today
for the Cheshire Cocker Spaniel Club Open show and the dogs had
a good day again!Chelsea's puppy Ribbon was
Best Puppy in Show ! Little Ribbon is maturing really well
and her coat is looking good, we had numerous compliments
about Ribbon which is always nice to hear. Chelsea and
Ribbon have a very strong bond and this shows in Chelsea's
handling. Chelsea was also Best Junior Handler in Show.
Sid was placed first in his
class and again we received many nice comments about him.
Both Sid and Ribbon are Show Stopper kids and it's great to
have some of his offspring in our hands, being shown.
Arnie was second again in
his class, he gave everyone a laugh by stealing my ring card
more than once! When he settles and stops acting the clown
I'm sure he will be placed higher than he is at the moment.

Well we made it up to
Nottingham for the Parti Colour Championship today, we were
snowed in the previous afternoon but a thaw overnight enabled us
to make it down the hill where we live to the main road.
We had a nice day catching
up with friends and the dogs had a successful day too.
Chelsea's puppy Ribbon was first in a strong class, as usual
Chelsea did a really good job of handling Ribbon and they
both looked lovely in the ring, well done girls!
Sid our new baby boy who is
a Show Stopper son out of Starry Eyed, enjoyed his first
Champ show and he was placed 3rd in Minor puppy dog thus
qualifying for crufts 2008.
Arnie, the liveliest of the
bunch was second in his class, so we had a good day.

We had a nice
day out at West of England Cocker Spaniel Clubs
open show today. All of our dogs were placed,
Arnie and Ribbon were first in their
classes. Willow, Quintavia Quintessential, had a
day out and she really enjoyed herself, she has
taken a back seat where showing is concerned due
to the fact that we have so many show quality
youngsters at the moment. Sid, Quintavia Star
Stopper made his show debut and behaved very
well for a baby and he was placed 4th in is
class which I was very pleased with.

Just received the
final F.N test result from Optigen that I was
waiting for. Stan, Quintavia Quantum Leap, has
tested NORMAL
for F.N. This last result
means that all of our dogs can be mated to any dog
and they will never produce puppies affected by F.N
!

|
23/01/07 |
Another fantastic
result from Optigen today.... Charbonnel Playtime At
Quntavia has tested NORMAL
for F.N ! We are still
awaiting one more test result but this dog is a
Peggy child sired by a F.N clear dog.
All of our adult
dogs have tested NORMAL
for F.N now, thus ensuring
that our Stud dogs and our girls will produce
puppies that can never develop F.N. I have some
youngsters sired by Quintavia Show Stopper out of
Quintavia Starry Eyes, both F.N clear, and some
youngsters out of Charbonnel Playtime and Charbonnel
Wildchild who are both F.N clear sired by F.N clear
dogs so I am pleased and relieved that I have a good
foundation on which to build upon.
I would like to
take this opportunity to extend my sincere Thanks to
Sandy Platt. Firstly for being my friend... secondly
for letting me have my Charbonnel's, I would not
have the quality solid line I have now if it were
not for her faith in me. But most importantly for
her sheer hard work in setting up the
EFNF. Money raised through
the EFNF helped to fund the research into developing
the test for F.N. I think a lot of breeders should
be extremely grateful to you for your commitment
into helping towards the development of this test.

We were invited to
the Cocker Spaniel Inter Club match today, we were
on the Midland Cocker Spaniel Club's team, and I am
pleased to say we had a lovely day, and the show
team did well too.... Quintavia Time Lord made it
through to the 2nd round, which was great as he
actually managed to keep all four feet on the ground
! but the star of the day was Chelsea's puppy Ribbon
who went through every round unbeaten and ended up
2nd Best Puppy in Match !! We received numerous
positive comments about Ribbon from fellow
competitor's and of course Ribbon's breeder who is
always happy to hear of her success
and achievements. Thanks again Beryl for letting us
have such a sweet girl.

Puppy Shenmore Sunny Jim (Orange Roan) and 2nd Best
Puppy Lawnswae Ribbon.

Here is the latest
photo of Quintavia Time Lord, Arnie, which was taken
today before we left home for the Cocker Spaniel
Inter Club match.
He is 11 months old
now and maturing very well. We love this boy to
bit's. He is a very lively dog which can be hard
work in the show ring but that's puppies for you
! He is a happy boy with an outgoing nature and
lovely kind temperament... what more could you ask
of a puppy?
Thanks again
Sandy ...

Here is Sid, a Quintavia Show
Stopper son out of Alice, Quintavia Starry Eyed. He is very much
like his dad, with the same head and eye, with good substance
and strength, and of course a sweet temperament.
A new puppy for the new
year.............
