At Quintavia our aim when breeding a litter of puppies is to produce happy, healthy cocker spaniels with excellent temperaments and good conformation which are typical examples of the breed. As part of our commitment to the health of the cocker spaniel we decided to make use of the Optigen DNA blood test for prcd-PRA and we started testing several years ago when the test first became available. We have been very lucky in that ALL dogs first tested were Clinically clear. We have recently taken advantage of the latest Optigen test for Familial Nephropathy and we are delighted that ALL dogs first tested were normal for F.N (they are not carriers ) We are now a couple of generations on and by ensuring we only use DNA tested clear stud dogs on our clinically clear girls we are proud to say our small " Kennel " is free of PRA and FN and our Boys and Girls will never produce affected puppies!
